Matagorda County is located along the mid-coastal region of the Texas Gulf Coast, with Calhoun & Jackson Counties to the southwest and west, Wharton County to the northwest and Brazoria County to the northeast.

The economy is ready for development. We have an ample labor supply and our school district is a leader in the region for producing well educated students. Because of the unique location of our city, Palacios has been by-passed by business and industry but the potential for expansion in tourism, retirement housing, light industrial and service-related businesses is ripe for development.

It is also important to note that Palacios is home to the second largest commercial fishing fleet in the state of Texas and ranks twenty-fifth in the nation. All commercial fishing related business is eagerly encouraged.
